Forecasts are a great source of inspiration for an upcoming advertising season, and I don’t just mean the prognostications for your own industry. There are two events predicted to have a huge impact on British Columbia this summer. One, of course, is the FIFA World Cup being held in Vancouver in June and July. That event is expected to bring an unprecedented number of visitors to BC’s Lower Mainland and beyond.
The other event is extreme heat. We’re talking the hottest ever in recorded history. Not something to celebrate, but still an opportunity for many businesses.
Marketing is about getting into the heads of your potential customers. How will these events impact on them? What problems might they create, and how can you solve them? Here are some examples.
Tourists need a place to stay. Beyond hotels, campsites, and such, are the homes of relatives. That means that a lot of home owners are expecting company, and THAT means opportunities to pitch home improvements, landscaping services, and yard maintenance. And, dare I add, family counselling?
Considering the climate forecast, you can add air conditioning, any type of fire mitigation, and even home generators to that list. Those with allergies, who’ve already had a rough go over the mild winter, may also be looking for deep cleaning services and air purification systems.
Locals are also going to try to avoid what will surely be a mess of traffic, especially during the World Cup, so if you have a physical storefront, you’ll want to run local services ads to show that you’re in the neighbourhood.
I could go on, but you get the picture – put yourself in situations that arise from the forecasts, identify the pain points and promote your solutions. We’re here to help and we are very creative!
