Fernwood

Posted on: April 12, 2023

Fernwood is a great place for young families looking for a single-family house in a community that’s still close to downtown and not as expensive as Oak Bay or Fairfield. The area is almost completely residential and has a mix of multifamily and single-family units.

While the neighborhood doesn’t have an oceanfront, it more than makes up for it with its character. In addition to young families, creative professionals also prefer the area. The streets are lined with trees and filled with quirky boutiques, heritage homes, beautiful historic buildings, and famous restaurants. Other points of interest include the Parfitt House, the Rennie & Taylor Bakery, and the Fernwood Inn.
The area is best described as one having an organic and artsy feel. At the heart of the community lies Fernwood Square, which is also home to the Belfry Theater, locally-owned neighborhood shops, Fernwood Pub, and coffee shops.

This vibrant, artsy, and urban neighborhood is fondly referred to as funky Fernwood and numerous theatrical, musical, artistic, and creative events take place in the Village Square in the neighborhood. There’s a lot of history and architecture in the area, such as Wentworth Villa.

Considering that Fernood has a small village and neighborly feel, it’s the ideal place for retirees, young adults, and families who are particularly drawn to this neighborhood for its sense of community, events, culture, history, and education. Both the Fernwood Community Association and the Fernwood Neighborhood Resource Group conduct events that help enrich the community.

The neighborhood is considered one of the best places to live in Victoria, and there are many reasons why. If you choose to live here, all activities and amenities that you might possibly need will be within walking distance, including parks (like Stadacona Park, Alexander Park, and Wesley Park), schools, farmer’s markets, boutique shopping, fine dining, breweries, pubs, cafés, and bistros. It’s also close to landmarks like the Craigdarroch Castle, Royal Jubilee Hospital, and Cook Street Village. Victoria British columbia

The housing options in this neighborhood are varied and include single-family homes, townhouses, 4-plexes, duplexes, and condos. The buildings are also a mix of styles and range from craftsman, character, cape cod, and heritage to modern contemporary.
