Optimization isn’t magic. It’s a lot of small tasks that add up to big results. While most people are familiar with the use of keywords, there’s much more behind on-page search engine optimization.
Headings
Headings need to show a logical breakdown of your content. Headings, sub-headings, and even sub-sub-headings also need to be coded with the proper tags in order for search engines to make sense of the content and the amount of detail you’ve provided.
Schema Markup
Schema markup is code that is added to your website to further categorize your content. A standardized vocabulary, used by all of the major search engines, provides a consistent way to label individual components of information, like the price of an item or the location of an event. This provides for more definitive indexing and “rich results,” answering questions right in the search results.
Meta Tags and Descriptions
Meta tags and meta descriptions are trickier than you may think. Intended to give search engines an overview of a page’s content, search engines do their own assessment and can penalize the site in ranking. If the assessment agrees with the summary, it will likely appear as written in search results, but if not, the search engine can create its own summary or basically throw the entire site in the dungeon.
The other thing to know is that it is possible to view meta tags summary what the content of a page is ab: Optimized title tags and meta descriptions.
URL Structure
A URL is the address of a web page, not an entire site. Search engines have preferences for how URLs are written. For example, keywords are great, but don’t use the word “and.”
Alt Text for Images
Describing images isn’t just for accessibility. It also adds to a search engine’s assessment of the content of your site, and as of late, contributes to image searches.
Internal Linking
Another often overlooked factor in on-page optimization is internal linking. It’s not enough to just have page links on the site’s menu, you need to connect the content as well. It is, of course, helpful to a site’s visitors, but also shows relationships between pages and components of content, which helps search engines understand the content and level of detail.
