Optimizing for AI Search: Part 1

The way people search for products and services is changing, and so is how search engines respond. With the introduction of Artificial Intelligence, consumers are asking detailed, conversational questions. That means traditional SEO isn’t enough to keep your business visible.

“Generative Engine Optimization” (GEO) gets you beyond search engines and into responses from AI platforms like Gemini and ChatGPT. To show up in these AI-generated responses, your site needs to be perceived as a credible, authoritative source that directly answers the questions being asked. Here are five ways we can do that together.

1 – Make sure your business details are consistent everywhere

AI engines hate conflicting information. If your website says you are open until 6:00 PM, but your Google Business Profile says 5:00 PM, the AI might skip over you entirely to avoid giving a user a bad recommendation.

What you can do: Google yourself and check your business name, address, phone number, core services, and operating hours across the entire web. They must be identical everywhere.

What we can do: Make sure your site has schema markup — coding that explicitly tells AI engines what your business is, what you sell, and where you operate.

2 – Ensure your site answers the exact questions your customers are asking

AI tools are designed to answer specific prompts, not keywords. Statements like “We offer accounting services” are no longer enough. You need to be specific and provide a full response to what customers want to know.

What you can do: Ask your team to compile the top 10–15 questions you get on sales calls or in your inbox (e.g., How much does this cost? How long does the process take? What is included?).

What we can do: Break those questions down and craft straightforward content around them so the AI can easily quote you.

3 – Make your site easy for AI to skim

AI bots don’t read websites the way humans do. They scan, classify, and extract. If your answers are buried in long, chunky paragraphs of marketing fluff, the AI will ignore them.

What you can do: Get your team to answer the questions we send you back, and provide explanations for any other queries we have.

What we can do: Restructure your key pages with the direct answer at the top, followed by clear headings, bullet points, and simple language.
