Fort Langley National Historic Site of Canada

Are you an immigrant to Canada? Do you have kids who would enjoy knowing a bit more about how easy their lives are today? Are you interested in history?

Fort Langley was a fur trading post in the 1800s. It has been carefully preserved as a historic site. You can see, hear, smell, taste, and feel the experiences of early settlers and Indigenous Peoples who lived during the fur trading days.

The Fort Langley National Historic Site, located near the Fraser River. It was a travelling route into this area from other parts of what are now British Columbia and Alberta.

This living museum is complete with many original buildings. Volunteers in period costumes will share stories and experiences of the remarkable lives of the people who lived here. There are also multilingual audio tour devices that you can use to explore the site at your own pace.

My kids loved learning about the local animals that were involved in the fur trade. They loved learning about local plants that were used as food and medicine during the heyday of the fort. My kids excitedly got their hands dirty potting plants when they learned about how those plants are helping to save the bees!

Throughout the year, you can also attend special events, like the Vive les Voyeageurs Festival, which celebrates French-Canadian culture and music. You can even try traditional foods from the era, too!

Admission is super reasonable for adults and seniors. Youth under 17 are admitted for free!
