It’s that time again. Forecasts, predictions, and prognostications are emerging for 2025. In the web trends category, five caught our attention.
1. Custom Illustrations
Whether it’s a cutesy doodle or a beautiful storybook-like painting, custom illustrations are predicted to be the imagery of choice. Illustrations grab attention and have the ability to convey brand character and values.
2. Dynamic Cursors
Dynamic cursors change what users see as they move their mouse. Instead of a simple navigation tool, they may see a circular magnifier over the content, the cursor changing shapes, buttons changing colour, or unexpected animations appearing. The caution is to be very strategic and not overdo it.
3. Nature-Inspired Images and Shapes
You’ll rarely see a perfect circle, square, or diamond shape in nature. The beauty in nature lies in its unique irregularity. This trend includes photos of nature, natural colour themes, and odd shapes. It may not suit all brands, but nature is usually uplifting and calming.
4. Full Page Headers
The idea here is to have a photo, illustration, or video that fills the screen, with a minimal amount of text. If you want to draw attention to a singular message, this is a great design tactic.
5. Voice Control
Voice search isn’t a new trend and has become increasingly important. Now though, we’re talking about voice-activated user interfaces. Instead of using a cursor, the user speaks a menu item or activates a site search. It’s an interesting evolution and may have accessibility benefits.
While it’s not essential to include all of the newest trends on your website, you do need to add new content regularly and stay up to date with what your target audience expects. Even a few minor changes can show customers that you’re on top of things and paying attention to their needs.
