Blood of My Blood. A show she actually got to the end of, which is more than most of us manage in a week of invoices, payroll, and “quick” emails that were not quick.

Office Admin
IIAS team
Angela Johnson
You get responsibility and commitment: invoices, payroll, domains, and the email that still needs a reply.
How they show up
The work behind the title
Angela is office admin at IIAS, 13 years into this kind of work. The days are invoicing, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, paying bills, answering email, domain names, and payroll.
Balancing the books is the short version. The longer version is that the marketing only works if someone is actually running the office, and that someone is her.
People who know her call her reasonable. That is the job, too: keep the numbers honest, keep the work moving, and get through the day.

Off the clock
The human details
Angela answers like someone who has already done the dishes. Short on the form. Fun if you let the answers breathe.
Painting. Quiet, on her own time, after the books are honest and the office has stopped asking for one more thing. Colour instead of spreadsheets.
Indoor plumbing. Dry as toast, and she meant it. Some people write a gadget. Angela wrote civilisation.
An interior designer. Rooms, colour, how a space should feel when you walk in. You can still see it in how tidy she likes the work to be.
Decorating a Christmas tree. She will not pretend this is a small talent. If the tree looks like it always belonged there, that was her.
Being reasonable. That is how people describe her, and it is also how the numbers stay clean. She is the person who can hear both sides and still pick the one that works.
Videos of people making baffling choices. She watches. She does not always comment. Sometimes the reasonable person in the room just needs to see that the rest of the world is still out there doing its thing.
Chocolate. Not a complicated coffee order. Chocolate. She will get through the day, and this is part of how.
A spy. She wrote it like it was obvious. The office already runs on noticing what other people missed, so the leap is smaller than it sounds.
Aliens exist. She is not asking if you agree. She is telling you how the universe is, and then she is going back to payroll.
Getting through the day. The most honest answer on the whole form. No hobby-speak. Just the work of being a person who still has tomorrow to do.
