Fairfield, famously called Cook Street Village, is another sought-after neighborhood primarily because of how much it resembles a quaint European village and how close it is to all the hotspots like downtown Victoria, Beacon Hill Park, Clover Point Park, and the Dallas Road Waterfront Trail.
The neighborhood is located in the southernmost part of the city, and the housing market here is a mix of single-family homes and low-rise apartments on well-maintained streets lined with trees. Most of these date back to the early 1900s! In fact, most buildings and heritage homes in the area are present on huge lots with mature trees.
Other housing options here include modern contemporary buildings, large character homes, townhouses, duplexes, rowhouses, and condos. As is the case with most other communities in the city, the housing design guidelines for new construction in Fairfield also require builders to retain the charm and character of the community.
On the west of the neighborhood lies Beacon Hill Park, while Oak Bay is present on the east side and the scenic Dallas Road on the south. Fairfield’s close proximity to all these things, the numerous walking trails, and the numerous amenities, such as the Moss Street Farmers Market, Cook Street Village restaurants and shops, children’s playgrounds, schools, tennis courts, and parks make it a favorite among empty nesters and young families.
In addition to all that, the neighborhood is also within walking distance from the Inner Harbor and downtown Victoria, which opens up more dining options, and you can even attend a music event at the Inner Harbor or attend live theater. Victoria BC
What makes Fairfield an even better option for families with young kids is its walking score, which is the highest among all neighborhoods. The tree-lined streets with old homes open up to independently-owned businesses, such as Books & Shenanigans, where you can find all the books present on your TBR list. You’ll also have a fun time at Root Cellar and the Victoria Lawn Bowling Club.
The amenities in this area aren’t lacking either. You can easily find everything you need, including fresh produce, boutique shopping, restaurants, and cafés.
