Chaberton Estate Winery

As parents of a young family, it’s important for my husband and I to get out and enjoy some time together sans kids. Recently, we took advantage of Grandma’s weeklong visit to enjoy an afternoon out by ourselves.

Being fairly new to Langley, BC, we did a bit of research before visiting the oldest winery in the Fraser Valley, the Chaberton Estate Winery.

The vineyard is beautiful. As we drove in, I felt myself starting to relax and unwind. My husband and I were primed for a wonderful time and Chaberton Estate Winery did not disappoint! We took our time with our visit to make the most out of it, including some purchases from the gift shop. More on that later.

Wine tours are currently on hold due to the pandemic, so we sprang for a private wine seminar. It was interesting learning all about the winery and the wines they make.

When the weather is nice, you can get a flight of four wines to enjoy in the vineyard’s picnic area. This reminded me a lot of some of the wineries we visited in Napa Valley before we had kids. I was pleasantly surprised that such a place exists right here in my backyard.

Hubby and I splashed out for lunch at the winery’s Bacchus Bistro. It was busier than I thought it would be for a Sunday, and glad we had made a reservation in advance. Service was excellent and we were very impressed with the menu. We were delighted to discover many French-style dishes as well as some West Coast panache!

After sharing an appetizer of prawns and a spinach salad, my husband opted for the beef bourguignon, and I had the chicken dijionaise. It was such a treat to eat something that wasn’t kid-friendly! We took our server’s suggestions on wine pairings. Despite the restaurant being busy, we were not rushed at all. We finished our meal by sharing a yummy lemon tart that neither of us had much room for.

After lunch, we made our way back to the tasting room and gift shop. We bought some Chaberton wines. We also got a few bottles from Similkameen Valley and South Okanagan wineries. We loved that Chaberton Estate Winery also promoted other select BC wineries’ products.
